Moving To Another State? 4 Types Of Internet Connections To Choose From

Posted on

If you are moving to another state, there are many things you must do from turning on the water to turning on the electricity. Another thing you must do is to find an Internet Service Provider (ISP). When doing this, you need to decide what type of ISP connection you would like for your home. There are different types of connections available, three of which are listed below.

Digital Subscriber Line

With a digital subscriber line (DSL) you have a modem and a router. The modem connects to your computer, and the router connects to the modem. The modem uses your telephone line in order to give a high-speed Internet connection. A DSL modem stays up all the time as long as your phone lines are up and running. A DSL modem generally has high-speed Internet connections and is reliable.

Cable

Another type of connection you can choose is a cable modem. You would receive this through a local cable company along with your cable service. In many cases, you can choose a bundle package where you pay one price for your cable and your Internet. A cable modem works much like a DSL, as you will install a modem that connects to your telephone line. A cable modem connection also provides you with high-speed Internet.

Satellite

With satellite, you get your Internet connection through a satellite that is installed outside your home. The satellite must be installed in an area that is not blocked by a lot of trees. Three satellite dishes are involved with this type of Internet connection. The satellite dish at your home, a satellite dish at your ISP, and the satellite dish that is in space. With satellite Internet, you also have a modem installed with cables that run from the modem to the satellite dish.

Fiber Optic Broadband

Fiber optic broadband is a type of Internet connection that uses fiber optic cables. You do need to check with the ISP service in your area, as not all areas have fiber optic cables installed. If your area does, then this is something you should consider. This is because in most cases you will have a faster speed when it comes to your Internet connection, such as when downloading and browsing.
